currently restoring a 69 westy. I plan on putting a second bunk in the pop-up section, so I have more of a platform, and so I don't have to worry about the kids falling onto me or my wife in the middle of the night. I have the two cots and I plan on doing this after I restore the mecanicals of the vehicle. Hopw mush will the childs cot hold? I would love to let me younger son sleep there and he is hyped up on the idea, but broken bokes aren't too cool on a campout! As far as the work I am doing, I am still on the front end. All the replacements and repairs/painting is done in the cargo area (under the bus). The rear end is next. It should be up and ready for the spring/summer. Would anyone out there recommend that I add a propane tank? I saw one on Ebay and it got me to thinking that it wouldn't be a bad idea to have it so I can hook up a gas grill. Any feedback on that?

Yeah Jim, you know who would be the best person(s) to ask is this group on yahoo. Goto Yahoogroups.com and search the group called the "wetwesties". These guys have later model VW campers with all the bells and whistles. Or even better way to do is send an email with your questions to this address: wetwesties@yahoogroups.com , it will be sent to every member in the wetwesties group. You will get feedback on what is best for your bus!

Hello Bucky. I'm forever planning for and camping as much as possible in the Baja peninsula with my 67 Kombi. If you live reasonably close to Baja and haven't done it yet, please check it out. Most often I sleep on the top of my 8-ft. rack (plywood attached). An easily attached, cast-off aluminum ladder from an RV gets me up there. With 8-ft.-long sapling support poles from Home Depot's gardening dept. and using PVC elbows and t-joints (just cut the tops off), I have devised a very nice awning. I can attach and set up my awning in less than ten minutes. Use a product called Sunbrella for your awning. It's not expensive and is very light and will shed water. View my three pics at vintagebus.com and you'll see the t-joints attached to the rack. Also in the pics you'll see the end piece of my awning frame. Obviously, shade's very important certain times of the year no matter where. Have fun camping. Paul A. Bareno, Red/White 67 Kombi.

Sounds like fun to me.I have a red/white 67 Micro that I take camping year round. The mountians of Idaho are beautifull and the hot springs really feel good.

There are plenty of WetWesties members driving split screen buses (I am just one of them). A nice mix of VW campers, from the 50s to brand new ones.

I have a US import '65 7 seater Microbus which has been converted to a Devon interior. Its quite special really as Devon only made conversions for RHD so the interior in mine is an exact copy made for LHD. Its the only one in the country (UK) and had a full feature in Ultra VW magazine even making the front cover!! I love it!

Taken In Newquay, UK 2 weeks ago on one of my many camping trips!

This is the first year we've had our bus finished and We're loving camping in it!
The past 2 weekends we've been camping and It's the most convenient thing! I can see how those hippies lived in our belovid busses back in the day. It would be fun to travel america and live out of the camper for several months.....only thing I'd miss is a SHOWER!!!! I had to bathe in an ice cold river last weekend and It wasn't fun! heheh

not to hijack, but..

Crofty,
Do your fog lamps point to the sides a bit? I installed mine last night and they look and sit better if I have them squared up with the curve in the bumper. If I point them head on they look odd.

They do kind of point out a little. They work real good though.
