I'm missing both floor mats, front and rear, and was wondering what to do. I'm not too keen (sp :?: ) on shelling out the dough for the ones premade from the various shops. Anybody have any luck with cheaper options? I'm on a budget to get my bus going, and a cheaper solution would be great. I'm not trying to restore it to factory, but something that looks nice and close to original, with the same type of ribbing or similar, would be fine. There has to be a cheaper option. peace, -Ian

Search all the Junkyards locally. When you go to VW shows, Talk to people with thier splits, they might know of them! Good Luck!

You're funny...junkyards...locally...that's great. The closest junkyard seems to be a few hours away. peace, -Ian

Ian, wow...that sucks. Luckily I am not in a big city. I guess thats a plus here, but the minus is less people, less vws. Theres a junkyard about a mile away here, and another about 5, and another about 15. lol Good Luck!

I'm sure there are junkyards, just not ones with vw's. My friend said something about a bay in a junkyard, I might go check what that's about. peace, -Ian

Ya, True. What i find out here, is that they are not VWs anyway. If there are, they are all ready scrapped and ready to be peiced for metal. They just aint around here anymore - that or rotted to hell.

Home Depot sells black ribbed mat material by the foot.
It comes in 36" widths, and maybe 48" in the bigger stores.
You could get about 20 feet of the stuff, and cut it in thirds.
Use one for the front, and two for the cargo area.
It would probably be easiest to trace a buddy's mats to get the front mat to fit. The rear cargos are alot simpler.
I used this material for the walktru area of my bus, and it looks pretty good alongside my repop mats, so it would look good as the mat.
Here's a photo:

You're going to have to search A LOT of boneyards to find even decent mats. In the end, if you value your time, you mite be better off just ponying up and buying new ones.

The wolfsburgwest ones aren't that expensive, and I think they'd last alot longer than some cheap mat...

the wwest ones are thin and crack easily

I have the WW repop mats.
They are NOT cheap,
They are too shiny, the originals were rubber, these are more like plastic.
They definitely are not as durable as originals.
They don't have proper cutouts like originals.
But what are you going to do? They are as good as any repops out there.
I say if you just want to drive the bus, and don't care about entering it in shows, save the money and fabricate your own.

And that is what I am doing. I'll let you guys know what I figure out, there is always something better out there; if not, make it. peace, -Ian

I hear ya. Somedays I wish I had a full manufacturing shop. I get so sick of the poor quality aftermarket crap out there.

So I was thinking today what to use for a mat, right. I was walking around and you know those rubber mats that shops have to wipe your feet on or whatever? I figure that it's thick enough rubber, looks thick enough, I just have to find a big enough one. Anyway, if I figure out a place to buy one I'll buy one. Anybody know where to get one, other than borrowing it. peace, -Ian

Dude, scroll up and read my first posting.
Home Depot sells the stuff by the foot.

Ya man, I read it. I am just trying to get the cargo area in one piece. If I can't find something to do it in one piece then I'll go with the two piece route, but until I give up with the one piece route I'll keep going that way. Thanks for the idea though. What's the mat at Home Depot cost by the foot anyhow :?: peace, -Ian

I have an NOS 60-67 front mat, really a 66/67 since there is no hole for the dimmer switch (you can punch onr). I also used it as a templete for the repo mats i sell, not shinny. It's the mat i stand on behind my counter and it's held up fine
