| Subbies are for Subarus, sandrails or Pu$$y VWs! You don't see subbie powered VWs out running the VW power plants. |

Subaru is boring
At this point our buggy driver is no doubt 100% insane, to actually build this monster and put boost to it. Yes, a subaru or a rocket engine would be less expensive method of overkill, but this is more interesting :D |

Insane is putting a blow through turbo'd 2275cc in a trike that makes 325hp at 15lbs. boost, then hitting over 100mph in under 1/8 mi going up a freeway on ramp with nothing more than a chicken shit bicycle wheel out in front of you...
Been there done that I have.
But yama's build will throw his ass back in the seat, and hard! it will be a load of fun, those 2500's are some torquey beasts. |

I have put 30 Lb's to it once. It didn't like it so much.
Typically I run about 22 but want this build to survive a little longer so probably keep it around 12 psi.
This one is an old Bernie Bergmann Crank that is no longer available.
If I found major fault with it I would have purchased a new one from DPR, DMS or Moldex. They all make them.
Moldex, if the budget allowed, are about $2K |

This is a VW site.
Take your Subaru garbage and wiener budget somewhere else.
Max potential cost real $$
Pulling 9X the HP out of an original 50 HP engine is like taking a Chevy 350 and making 1800 HP. How much do you think 1800 HP would cost to build and keep alive?
Not mad; just getting you to think diferently. |

Any small block can make that if you throw enough nitrous at it, getting it to make that consistently and reliably will take around $50,000. |

I get great satisfaction beating modern cars with a engine that was designed in the 1930 and maxed out at 58hp originally.
And able to do it day in day out for years.
I love the smell and sound of a air cooled Type 1 engine.
Nothing wrong with a Subaru, but it isn't a vintage VW. |

If you are doing the tuning YOURSELF,then check this system out.
www.sdsefi.com
I have used this system on over a dozen cars. It is SIMPLE to tune and RELIABLE. Much more intuitive to use than the laptop systems.
With this system on my 2.0l VW 16V with a GT3076R turbo I made 445whp at 28ps,and on a 2.8VR6 made 463whp @ 20 psi with a GT40R.
This system is USER FRIENDLY,and is easier to install than a car stereo, and the keypad makes tuning so simple it is ridiculous.
Good luck! |

More details have been written for each picture in my gallery.
There are also a few more pictures not included here...
Crank being finally assembled with ARP 2000 bolts along with Calico Coated Clevite Bearings.
Wedgemated 90mm Cranks Rear main journal.
90mm Crank Snout.
Notice the proper radii on the journals and lands.
Udo Becker Tool Steel Lifters are prelubed along with center main and cam bearings. Udo's do not need a standard cam "Break-In" so no fancy "Snake Oil" is needed here. German pick-up tube also shown.
Main Gallery, Oil Control bore and lifter bore gallery plugs sealed with PTFE. It is unacceptable to build engines without pulling all the plugs so the case can be cleaned properly.
Real Magnum Straight cut Gears prelubed with Web 86C cam ground on 112 degree Lobe Centers. Cam clearanced by Web cams. Gold Washers are for a "0" degree gear setting. Almost ready to be clamped together.
Web Cam ground on 2/11 and is an 86C on 112 Lobe Centers.
Bugpack Dry-Sump pump being blueprinted to perfection.
For this Turbo application I used a 2mm Top ring along with the 2nd Total Seal Ring Option; then filed to fit perfectly.
4 Balanced Wiseco 94mm pistons with pins and rings from Brothers Machine shop. Weights were perfectly matched!
Case primed with High heat Aluminum primer.
Case painted with High heat Aluminum paint. On the bores with rods sticking out it is easiest to just put an old cylinder on to mask from overspray.
After removing the masking from the Short Block |
