Ok, If this sounds like a lame chick question, it's cuz it is coming from a chick that's feels a little lame. Purchased a 67 Kombi that is not running (needed metal for a 67 deluxe), the person didnt know why and didnt appear to know much about VW's in general (ok so I dont either). Anyway, giving it a shot at getting it to fire up. I know the starter is no good. But in checking other items, on one of the coil male connectors there is, for lack of a better description, a splitter like connector for two separate wires. One of the wires on that connector I cant seem to trace out and it has an inline fuse?? Anyone have any idea what this might be for?? whew!! long winded I know. Thanks in advance for any info

If it has an inline fuse then it's probably coming off the positive side of the coil which means it should be "hot" when the ignition is on. This also means it could be there for about 100 reasons from lights or whatever. Original factory use would be for the electric choke element or the magnetic cutoff on the carb. Look for an electrical spade connector coming from the choke or the same thing coming from the magnetic cutoff. Both items are on your carb so they are easy to find. Depending on your carb model you may not have the magnetic cutoff switch. Whether your have one or both they both connect to the postive side of the coil. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure that it's the wire to your back up lights. I have recently got mine on my 67 working again. The wire with the inline fuse goes from the coil to the switch on your tranny.
Good luck.

Thanks Go & Brian, I did finally find a wiring diagram and yes Brian it is for the back up lights. I do not have them on the 67 deluxe and that's where i got confused, blonde thing I guess. Thanks for the help!!!

Hey don't be so hard on yourself, people swap out engines from other cars and put them in earlier models all the time! No one person knows everything around here...
