i am trying to get info on taking the tranny out of my 66fastback to put in my 66 westy. is it worth doing and what needs to be removed with tranny for use in bus. i understand it lowers the rear! how much?need info before i rid myself of fastback thanks Ed

you will need a wolfgang or busboys rear straight axle kit. it will come with different spring plates and different axletubes. the axles in your fastback are the right ones for the conversion. you will need bug short axle bearing caps and adapters to change your 4 lug brakes to 5 lug. you will also need to put your bus nose cone on the type 3 tranny. and then your pretty much good to go.

yeah that shuold take about 15 minutes start to finish .thanks for the info how should this effect overall performance ,anyone got this type of conversion riding around and how big does my engine need to be cause i assume the beetle engine in there now isn't strong enough to get it going uphill.also want to know what this could cost and what about the lowering (how low would it go too much so i immediately would have the front to follow0

this conversion will increase your top speed. a 1600 will push your bus with this tranny, of course a larger engine would be nice but the 1600 will work fine. you will deffinatly need to do the front too at the same time or it will look very silly!
