I've got a 2001 vw Jetta 1.8t / 5speed and have spun the timing belt on it. Upon first tear down it has been found that several valves are bent, and most likely will need major work or possibly replacement of the cylinder head.
This repair is going to be costly, and no doubt out of my budget. My question is this, how would I get the most money back? Is parting this car out really worth it, or should I sit on it wait for money for replacement motor perhaps and resell once I can manage the new motor?
How is the market for the parts on this car? Does the fact that it's a wolfsberg make any kind of diff, or did i just buy a money pit with fancy wheels and cool badges?
Also, as Im not really familiar with this site, how realistic would it be to find somebody who would be willing to make a trade on something a little more manageable such as a running air-cooled vw?
Thanks for the look and replies in advance... |

I am in the middle of parting out a full custom 2001 Wolfsburg. Your car isn't worth that much and being a Wolfsburg edition means nothing to the market. I have a 0 mile fully rebuilt motor sitting in my garage ready to roll. It was built for a big turbo so it has lots of fancy stuff. I just want it gone so I am selling it at a huge loss. Not to turn this into a FS thread but, parting out your car is more of a headache then I am sure you want. You would be better off replacing the head/motor and driving the car for as long as you can.
You can check out some of my threads on the Vortex to get an idea of the pain I am going through selling this stuff.
Also, if you end up selling the car as is, please let me know. I may be interested.

I am not sure what you have in the car, and its not my business, but you can find a used head for decent, it may be your best way out, figure a couple hundred in gaskets and fluid, and a couple hundred in an AWW or AWP head. I have helped a few guys here locally buy giving them a used 1.8t head for a few hundred with trade for their bad one if its useable. I just sold a fresh rebuilt aww last week.. best of luck and I would try not to part it out of you can.. there is not enough demand right now unless you have alot of extras or something..
