Use a long stud, thread it into the dangling plate.Push plate up into position and use nut. This is just to lineup the holes, but since your other nut is broke off, your kinda in a jam.

Use a dremel and a bunch of patience and cut the front shift coupler in half and remove it. Then get a swayaway urathane one and all probs will be over. Wear eye protection and jack the bus up as high as you safely can. This job sucks ass but your gonna have to do it. NAES

But I had to remove the stop plate, has anyone else had this problem, I had a very rusted out stop plate and shifter housing, so i replaced it. then I could not get all but first or third gear. so I removed it and it works. does anyone know how many differant stop plates they make , using the early style there are 2 different ones the ramp on the right side is larger on one.my bus is a 1961 but the vin numbers state it was made in december 1960 714 starting numbers in vin number. does anyone now if a aftermarket shifter will work like a empi or gene berg ?
