View original topic: Tool roll question

I am interested in learning a bit about the original tool rolls that came with busses through the years. I'm sure someone has done some research ahead of me. I've seen the tool rolls some aftermrket that have lots of pockets for the various tools. What years would these be correct? I have two that are simple pouches no pockets. Both are black, one has a kind of basket weave pattern and the other is smooth grain, what years were these part of the delivered bus? While I am on the same topic did any splitties come with a bag for the jack? Inquiring minds want to know...

I think they used the ones with lots of pockets until at least 1965. My '55 tool bag is large with lots of pockets, color is black. The bag usually matches the upholstery for Buses as they were made out of spare upholstery material. For Buses, I've seen black, green, grey, and salt and pepper.

The basketweave simple pouch you have is probably from a Bay Window Bus. The smooth grain may also be from a Bay Window or another Type of VW.

I have seen bags for the jack as well but very, very few. I have a black jack bag for my '55 Kombi but it's from a later Bus. I have seen green too.
