A while back someone asked if anyone could share how to make dropped spindles and nobody replied.
So, I am going to through the question out there again. I have access to all of the tools and have lots of metalworking backround and I want to drop my spindles. I would just go out and buy them but I am too short on money.
I am sure that their are some folks out there who can help me out...Right???? |

Try this guy. He is all over the underside of busses. cameron johnson camerod@tscnet.com
He does alot of lowering. Not sure if he does the spindles himself or not. I did run into a local guy that did them but haven't talked with him in a long time. He told me he basically he shaves off the axle part and rewelds it higher up the spindle body. Maybe try greg at vintage warehouse as well??

| It depends on what type spindles you want to drop. I made a set for a '73 bus about 15 years ago, and have a set of '68 dropped spindles on my '67 double cab. I personally won't drop king/link pin spindles, but to do them I believe all you have to do is swap and flip the spindles to opposite king pin assemblies. Of course you have to have the equipment to rebush, ream and adjust the pins. Let me know if you are interested in dropping ball joint spindles; the ride and handling improves 100%. |

| The pros who make them grind the inside of the spindle out to clear the link pin, they also weld the opposite side of it for strength. They also taper the tie rode hole the oppostie dirrection so the tie rods fit from the bottom to help clear the body. They also weld a steer stop to limmit travel so your inside wheel wont over turn. As far as the other parts who knows, try it. |
