OK, so I've been doing a TON of stuff to my bus, I wanna make it run like a champ...not to long ago, I rebuilt it, New Jugs, and Heads. So it's pretty good internally, recently I updated to a single QP Header, Electronic 009 Dist. w/Blue Coil, and a Full Flow Pump/W filter...Oh, and this engine is stock 1600 SP, and I upgraded to a Doghouse cooler...Not a bad engine eh ;) Problem though! I've got about 22PSI oil pressure at Hot Idle...and 40-45 at Driving speed. In my bus I ALSO have a Freeway flyer...so I'm not killing it at 65-70. Here's the Deal though, I think my timing is off, and I can't get it right, cause I can only static time it...what should it be roughly past TDC, I've heard 9 BTDC, but I'm not sure...hook a brother up! My engine temp varies from 210-220, on an 85 degree day. Thanks for ALL your help.
Oh, and one other thing, all cooling tin is in place, carb was upped from a 120 Main, to a 122.5 main, and is running a solex 30/31 (Yea, small main..weird)...Fan Belts tight...etc. I don't wanna add scoops, but if I have too...I will to keep it at 180-190 for a few hours straight on the highway. Thanks again!

First thing, 009 with a stock carb sucks! My body guy had 4 VW mechanics look at his bus for a hessitation, none could fix it. I spent 20 minutes, put in a vacume advance dist and like always fixed that issue. With a freeway flier trans you will need an external oil cooler has been my experiance. My last bus ran at 240 on a hot day no matter what tunning I did, 1776 with 7.5 comp ratio. I went from 135 to 175 mains (dual kads) and at 155 dropped to 220 , no matter what I did I was not aboe to get to 185-190 until I added an oil cooler. You would not believe how insane I am about engine maint and I tried every timing setting you could imagine from 15-45 deg total advance. Add an oil cooler and move on with life. I mounted mine in a full flow system and made a bracket off the trans hoop, mounted the cooler straight up into the trans area and had massive cooling, almost to cool.
