Big Nut's for the later years, I've heard they are better and stuff, but not sure...I know they have cheaper parts available. I have a big nut on my '67, and it's a good ride. i feel that the big nut is more stronger, hince the the larger axle, and nut. Peace.

big nut is 10% faster than a small nut. both are extremely heavy duty. the big nut tranny has a steel plug that must be removed to replace the bearings. the replacement that is available is plastic. I don't like that.

Another advantage to the big nut boxes, is that they have larger brakes. Add that fact with the higher gearing of the big nuts, and they are well worth the price of admission; especially if your early boxes need rebuilding anyways.

Thanx guys, I got an email from John K. and he says the smallnut is rated at 3/4 ton and the BIGNUT is rated at 1 ton. I just bought another baja which happens to have smallnut redux boxes. My first. Always been IRS. Have to learn to drive all over again. Ol' John
