I've decided to put in a CD player and want the most unobstrusive installation. I've seen them squeezed between the dash and shelf and maybe one suspended under the parcel shelf. Would like to get your opinion on which way to go and even which player you have.
Thanks,

I don't have a player, but I did have a tapedeck I ran under my dash...due to the lack of Airflow, it would actually, over heat, and shut off...hahaha, but who knows, if you're running amps and stuff, you could be better off, it was a tight wiring job, but I liked the look of it, I figured the one below the dash would interfere with my shifting/brake...So I opted not to mount below, plus it woulda been harder...
Good luck. |

| I ran a blaupunkt cd player under the package tray. You just buy a mounting unit from a stereo shop for around $20 and all you have to make sure is that the ebrake handle and the shifter are clearing comfortably. I ran mine right under whre the radio went in the center. NAES |

| I have my deck under the dash but above the parcel tray. Then I have my cd changer mounted to my back wall of my SC, as well as the Amp mounted back there too. The only problem I worry about is the safari's leaking and dripping on the radio...almost have that figured out though. |

58Type2,
I have safaris too and wondered about some kind of sheet metal or something to put under the dash on top of the radio to protect from water. What did you do?

At the moment, I just seal the safaris with GE Silicone II 100% Silicone Sealant (Clear) when it gets to the wet seasons. I am going to look into the sheet metal shroud though, have been for a couple months but have yet to make the design I have wanted as of yet. I have a wood front I made to shroud the wiring and am trying to get it to mount to that as well. Plus, I need to reseal my ashtray to keep it from having water drip.
Also, have thought, actually thought of this today, to put like an acrylic sheet behind the dash grill, in place of the carpet look that is there now. Anything to prevent water, you know.
After the first of the month, when I have money, I am going to try a few things and will let you know. Otherwise, right now, for the wet weather, I use the caulking and it makes it water proof for those windows.

| I mounted mine up top, made a holder out of mdf, painted it first with hammerite to get an authentic texture and then top-cpoated the same colour as the interior metal, mounted under the fresh air vent by dropping out the bottom panel, cable tieing the box to the panel, and then reattaching. That way you don't need to drill anything. The wires can tuck under the headliner, and run all the way to the battery and/or speakers/amp etc in the back of the vehicle, then I ran back up under the floor to the front speakers. It's a bit of a dog's dinner with all the speaker wires, but they are all hidden and works great. The thin gauge mdf is strong enough. |

Hey Spengdog,
Have any pictures of your setup on the Samba?
Sounds like an interesting alternative...

Has anyone installed a cd player to the left of the steering column under the parcel tray?
Pros and cons? |

| I don't think a cd player will fit to the left of the steering column. I put mine under the tray to the right of the e brake. |

It won't, I tried, when I was trying to decide where to put mine. It eventually ended up in the middle of the parcel tray.

I have a cd player hung under the parcel tray with a standard plastic 'hanger box' and it fits fine. I cut some off the back of the box and had to drill four small holes in the bottom of the parcel tray.
Has anyone run speaker wires in a deluxe (with belly pans) under the body and into the cargo area. I was thinking about wiring a couple under the middle seat so I wouldn't have to cut anything and they would be out of sight. Just wondering what the route would be under the floor and how to get there. |

| heres what i got for tunes, ive got a regular tape deck mounted behind my frount seat. along witha six disk changer wired with the radio. and behind the dash where the old speaker was i put the LLD display that works the changer. all that is ran between the radio and the changer display is one wire (very easy to hide).the display works of a remote. the only thing that sucks is that you cant read the display, mine is old and i think they now have ones that ight up. but its never seen so you will not get any punk kids with any bright ideas of ripping it off. and you can have 6 good cds in and not have to carry a cd case. buses are very easy to break into and this is why i did mine this way. |

2 creative options:
1. get an RF modulated cd changer. it will have a small lcd with remote seperate from the main unit so you could mount it wherever you want. most car stereo brands make one...sony, alpine, panasonic, etc.
2. i was faced with the same dilemma. i want to leave my original sapphire in my 65 21 window, (especially since i just got it working), and dont want a flashy system. I haven't actually installed this yet but i have everything and its ready to go. I unfortunately just dont live with my bus. Im at school.
I have a panasonic cd player with detachable face and a 6disc changer. im going to mount the deck and the changer under the rear bench seat. with about 10 bucks of parts from panasonics website, i created a cable that connects the face plate to the deck. Im running the cable from under the bench seat all the way up to the parcel tray where i am going to put the faceplate. im going to put it on a piano hinge underneath the bottom edge of the dash so it will fold up behind the dash when im not in the car, and fold it down when i get in. i also have a remote.
I want to make a motor that can swing the face down when the ignition is on but i think i am getting a little out of my league. if any of you are more interested on this...email me. jake.
o ya...amps under rear bench, subs under middle bench in custom sealed box, and speakers all around...not sure where yet though. |

Installed it between the steering column and the e-brake in a standard box. Cut the back off of it to give clearance to the fuse block. Worked great. Sounds great...
Thanks for the input.
