View original topic: Is a Dash Clip necessary for just a cut radio hole?

I have a dash that has the main hole enlarged but doesn't cut into the slotted area of the dash and the volume and tuner holes are cut 1/2" to the outside. Since all of the damage is within the 'flat' area of the dash as opposed to the 'grill' area, can a body shop (welder) just add welding rod to the open areas or does he need a clip?

A couple of radio guys have told me that there was a cover plate used on some Sapphire radios which would cover the hole, but I haven't seen any.

I don't know much about welding and would appreciate some help.

Thanks,

Doug

You might try looking in the type 2 classified section. They are for sale quit often and if you e-mail the seller for the dimensions you should have your answer, and the part too! Good luck.

Timgud,

Are you talking about the dash clip or a radio faceplate?

The radio faceplate. My thinking was you could get the dimensions of the faceplate and that would tell you if it would cover up the hole or not. Good luck.

I gotten a couple of emails telling me that faceplates for buses never existed.

Can I weld just a small area around the radio holes and not a large piece of the dash? That would be just short of the grill.

Doug,

Have my Sapphire radio mounted where it belongs, but the radio holes are cut and I had to use a bug faceplate to get it to stay. Would like to just cut in the area of the faceplate with the correct holes from a dash clip, but don't know how to weld.
