What happens before the steering box goes? To say there's a catch is a massive understatement. After a corner I have to quickly work the wheel to get it moving again. Is this inconvenient or dangerous? -how difficult is steering box replacement ? (heard about body cuts to get new box in)
-Plan B is steering with yellow rope - go-cart style!
thanks

not sure about it catching like that, but too much play in the wheel is the number one sign (but other stuff may cause that, too). replacing the steering box is difficult more because the bus has to be up pretty high to get the box and shaft out. the body cuts you've heard about are to accomodate brazilian steering boxes, which are taller than the og ones and thus the frame gets in the way (take a peek under the bus - you'll see why). wolfgang or bus-boys will rebuild yours - you'll know it'll fit. check out http://www.wolfgangint.com - their description of how to see if your box needs rebuilt might describe the cause of the catch you're feeling. oh, yeah - i classify steering issues as dangerous. not being able to steer when you're already moving is not a good thing. good luck.

My bus used to stick on turns, what I mean by that is if I turned the wheel left or right, it wouldn't return. At first I thought it was the steering box but later I found that it was the center pin that was to blame. It was nearly seized. I had it replaced and now my bus steers normally and the wheel returns to center after a turn.

thanks for the input

when it 'catches' it'll stick and stay there-- the steering wheel is like stone. I can reef it past the catch and then I get movement back. Sounds like its the box (cause I've got over a quarter turn of play in it) and something else-

I'll get under there this week and check if something bent or I need to get the box re-built(placed).

thanks again

On the subject of boxes... will the one I have off my 60 fit up to 67? I have had enquiries about it but no takers as I couldn't for sure tell them it would work.... Thanks... K
