Recently I've done that with a Mr.Wob kit.
Do you have all the kit parts ?
Can you be more specific about your needs /doubts ? |

| Do you mean the cooling spiral Dave? If so you'll find some good illustrations here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=407674 |

Thanks John, that's exactly what I was after :)
I note that that cooling spiral looks to be the same size copper pipe throughout (as is mine) whereas Steph's (Mr Wob's) increases in size at one point. Why is that?
I also read on the your Judson site that the flow and return flexible oil pipes are of differing sizes - but I couldn't find what they were. Are you able to furnish me with that info please?
Thanks Flavio - the link John has provided has all that I need.
Interestingly VolksWorld has just dropped through my door whilst writing this and it features Eric Jone's 56ovalrhd sunroof with Judson and Okrasa oil spiral - his car is very close to how I hope mine will end up so that's inspirational and timely :)
This is how it looks - awesome, thanks Eric:
Cheers,

Hmmm. The reference to the different bore oil lines referred to my original Fram oil filter without the cooling spiral which was fitted around 2002.
I had the Fram and found a guy who race prepared Sprites and had a lot of experience in cooling them. I drove my Beetle to him, handed him my Fram filter and said could you make some oil lines for it.
I told him the usual way they were routed and he had the Fram fitted and running within the hour. He suggested a wider bore return so as not to rob the engine of a reasonable oil flow. As for what bore lines and fitting I sadly didn't make a note.
Later I had one of Steph's cooling spirals added and never experienced any oil pressure or overheating issues with my Judson over the ensuing 5 years of ownership.
To be honest I don't think the Fram Filter/Cooling Spiral set-up draws enough oil from the case at any one time to cause oil pressure problems. Not in my experience anyway.
I've always loved Eric's '56...beautiful car. :) |

The return line should be in the next bigger size to prevent something I call back pressure. You always have to do that in hydraulic systems (that use oil or other fluids) that runs on high pressure. It can be fatal if you got the same pressure on both sides of a hydraulic block/valve.
But high pressure is no problem in this case... |

| Fortunately were not talking about a set-up that is either the primary source of filtration or cooling. This at best is a by-pass that filters and/or cools a small proportion of the engine's oil at any one time. |

Thanks for the props guys, I got some spy photos from England this morning of the feature.
Who knows if the spiral really does any good? I don't really care, it looked cool on the engine stand :-) I think there's a pic of the motor before I installed it in the magazine  |
