My red light (left side) is flickering, but only at high revs. The engine is definitely not hot, the belt is tight. It's a 1600, so my 66 VW bible is not describing my generator. At least I don't think it is; there are no slits just two big squarish holes at the top and botttom of the generator, one hole is covered by a piece of plastic .
Are there brushes or contacts in there to clean? How do I do it? If it's flickering am I running only on my battery? Or do I just have to replace my generator? |

| The two openings are for getting into the generator to change the brushes. You should replace both sets and see what happens. That will probably fix your problem. The voltage regulator could be to blame as well but I doubt it. |

| Also check the stater (the surface the brushes ride on) for excessive wear. |
