I have my filter after the pump. It's in the line that comes out from the pan back by the transaxle but before the tee going to the carbs. I'm not sure if it makes a difference.

We picked up the long block from Brothers Machine. Got the 010 distrbutor back from Glenn Ring. Carbs and exhaust next. Mark decided to go with the A1 sidewinder.

We did some digging and found we had all the tin all along. Test fit and trimmed it all today.

Also got relays in the mail from ISP. They sent a three prong flasher relay and we have a two prong one. Will it work?

We went to ISP West today and picked up some parts. Nice to meet Anthony and the guys, even got a shop tour. Mike, thanks for the heads up on the side marker lights. Heading out to work on the car some more today.

Mark ordered the carbs from Art Thraen (ACE), HPMX 44s per Art's suggestion. A1 Sidewinder should be here soon.

Getting closer to the finish line.

No problemo, I think the red/clear lenses will look the best.

The look on your face when we said "amber" said it all lol.

Haha, whoopsie. Now you need clear turn signal lenses...

I know, same old fuzzy picture. This time the car has side trim, mirrors, antenna and the fuel pump mounted. We were messing around with furniture pad on top trying to get a feel for how the rag top will look.

All the engine tin is at the powder coat shop along with the the foot pedals. I am still waiting on my work to cut out the alternator brackets, just my luck one of our laser cutters was down for repairs. Hopefully this week

We're waiting on the carbs from Art Thraen and the exhaust from A1.

Question on the brake switch. Do we need to seal the threads with anything before screwing it in and tightening it down?

Also, is it ok to run the drain tube from the breather box into the oil filler tube? It looks like the original drain tube went there?

No. Don't put anything on the threads. Just screw them on tight, as they are pipe threads.

Thanks Bob

Anyone have a picture of how the rocker trim fits. A picture looking down from the top, especially how it fits where it transitions from the front fender to the rocker panel.

Thanks in advance.

Just say no to ragtops.

69SquareGuy Sun May 06, 2012 6:30 pm

This car doesn't deserve the ragtop treatment. I don't think I've ever seen a ragtop add value to a Type 3; it's usually the other way around. I know it's Mark's car and to each his own, but... :?

chaosisme Sun May 06, 2012 9:36 pm

That car is too cool for a ragtop.

IAMIROY Sat May 26, 2012 4:23 pm

OK OK!! Thanks for the old fart alert on the ragtop! Call us old but we thought it would be cool. 8)

Starting to put the engine together and put the oil cooler on when I noticed the holes we different sizes! The smaller one in the picture is 9.8mm, the larger one is 11.6mm. Is this normal?

Also, should we use any sealer on the seals?

Mike Fisher Sat May 26, 2012 5:10 pm

Check out John Jaranson's square if you don't thing ragtops are cool! 8)

I just found this thread. It looks like the different sized passages are normal.

Also, I just did my oil cooler seals not too long ago after blowing one out and Im pretty sure we didnt use any sealer to install them, just make sure you use the right size.

Yup, use the 10mm seals, no sealer, and torque the oil cooler nuts and bolts to 7 ft pounds. Also, use no spacers under the cooler studs. I almost forgot that one.

agree... this thing is pure

if in 3, 5, 10 yrs... you want to feel young... then maybe, just maybe do it.

IAMIROY Sun May 27, 2012 7:55 am

Thank you chaos and Bob. I was able to find info on the spacer/no spacer issue and determine it didn't need spacers. Everything tightened up and sealed good. I was concerned about the hole sizes but knew there was anything we could do about it anyways lol

Got all the tin on but then realized the fan pulley we picked up was trash. The dowel was broken and the hole wallered out and cracked, so back on the hunt for another one.

It's taking a long time from A1 for the exhaust and ACE for the carbs. It's a slow process dealing with the high end guys for some reason.

Apparently now ACE is building us some new IDF style carbs. Decade 44s

Got the pedal cluster all done, rebuilt with Unique Parts roller pedal and hook-less clutch shaft.

Also got our parts back from powder coat and started some engine assembly.
