Hey all, I know I'm revealing myself as being way out of the loop, but what ever happened to the Society Of Transporter Owners? Is it still around? Just wondering thanks,
Owen

Okay Ill give it a shot...
Bus Politics...
-SOTO ruled the roost
-Southern Cal wanted too rule the roost and started OCTO....
-Problem,, SOTO was run by one individual, no cabinet members
-Classified Adds on the internet soon defeated the purpose of monthly SOTO Newsletter.
-SOTO members loosing intrest due to problems with Newsletter and Membership Fees
-OCTO more or less says FU to SOTO and has
their show the same day as SOTO, the day before the Classic. In doing so that put the
final nail in the coffin for SOTO.
If I sound like I dont care for OCTO,I dont mean too. OCTO like SOTO really is just another swap meet and cool buses.
This is just MY opinion, you disagree..cool
then you try to answer this dudes question.
Its too bad SOTO is gone. It should have worked out like Starbucks and Peet's Coffee.

The last issue I got from them, my SC was the featured vehicle of the month. That was right after I redid my membership a year or so ago. I don't know what happened either but still have the sticker on the right safari and where the shirt when its clean, and I was nowhere near able to go to the meets and what not.

Just wanted to add one itty bitty comment to the above contributions... OCTO is a chapter of NEATO and not an independent club. NEATO or Northeast Area Transporter Owners had been a competitor of SOTO'S since the early 80's. NEATO and SOTO are both going strong...

OCTO not SOTO going strong....typo

I know SOTO stands for Society of Transporter Owners, and now I know what NEATO stands for but what does OCTO stand for?

SOTO is a joke, and has been for many years.Look for their newsletters to start appearing in the "Rarest of the Rare" issues of VW mags. Stick with a NEATO club like OCTO or SV2's.

What happened to SOTO ? Heck, I wanna know what happened to all of our membership $$$$ that was kept long after the newsletters stopped coming. Does this also mean that "vintage and rare" SOTO t-shirts will be selling on Ebay one day?

Thanks for the info. I got infected by VW fever back about 6 years ago. seemed like shortly after that I ran into SOTO somehow and ended up becoming a member. The newsletters came for a while and then got kind sporatic and then quit altogether. If I remember correctly, shortly after I pd my membership $ again, I stopped getting letters altogether. The guy that was running SOTO was Dave something. he posted a bus in his own classifieds I liked it and was going going to travel to NOCal or thereabouts from AZ to get it but he never sent pics and quit responding to me. Then I remember seeing a show coverage in VWt or Hvw's and they talked about not many buses there, but good quality. I just wanted to know what other people knew.
Thanks
Owen
