just bought this tonight and cant wait to get started going to do a full tube chassis Dave B is going to be statrting on it soon, its going to be a street buggy with light duty trail
i have a link pin for the front and doing irs in the rear with a three rib bus transaxle, Dave is building rear arms so i can be bus from side to side
engine an 1835 for now but i want to go water cooled i realy want a heater in the front for cold nights coming home
I want to run 15-7 in the front with 205-60/15 and back 15-10 with 275-60/15

any suggestions would be great

serial number is 1514 anyone know what it means

will get better pictures in the daytime[/img][img]

It means it is a Manx II moulded after Bruce left the company, probably in early to mid '71. I belive (according to BL3's archives) the last body sold was # 1682 in August '71 so yours is one of the last.

Wow, yours is only 21 older than mine. (1493) I wonder if they were at the Manx facility at the same time. It is my favorite color too. Keep us updated on your progress.

Depends on engine & where you plan to locate radiator... I've seen some folks use a watercooled Rabbit motor in back & run a Dasher or Geo Metro radiator in rear; on others, I've seen people run 'X' engine with a front mounted radiator. And some Subaru powered buggies have run small custom radiators/heat exchangers in the side pods...

About the only way to fit a radiator and fan in a buggy without it looking like a completely bodged afterthought would be to build a custom mid engine chassis and cut out the entire rear seat from the body. With the engine mounted transverse behind the driver you could locate the radiator in the location the engine was. That's basically what they did to the Bounty Hunter to make the Deserter GS.

In the 60s there was also a guy who sold new hoods for Manxes that mounted the radiator vertically in front in a Model T style grill. It looked like hell. If you're going to to integrate a water cooled engine in a well thought out design, it can be great. If you just get an adapter and mount a water cooled engine on a VW transaxe and hang a radiator way out in back on an engine cage, its not so great at all and the car would be much better with the aircooled engine it was designed for.

my dad had a Impy sportster with a corvair six in it so ive always wanted one in my own buggy but way to expensive so got to looking and kind was thinking of the subaru xt6 engine: 2.7L 6 cyl i know its not the big hp of the newer sixes it has about 145 hp and 160 ish tq pleanty for scooting around.
i was also thinking of running the vented side pods and running dual radiators with fans

The vented side pods for the Manx style body have very little room.
I have them on my Kick Out.
When I went to install an oil cooler I found that I could only install a 48 plate cooler in it. This a Mesa cooler that measure 1 1/2in thick, 5 3/4in wide, and 11in tall.
The side pods on the Manxter are wide enough to install radiators in, but do not fit a regular Manx.
My friend in Australia use a radiator up front on His Manx for his Subaru engine. Pictures are on the Australian Manx site. It does not look bad at all. With front bumper on it not that easy to see.

This cooler is not for water but it may help give you an idea. It was my Imp.

A friend here locally installed a Ford Zetec motor in the back of his Berrien Manx clone & used a small Nissan Sentra radiator in the nose of the buggy - later on, he installed a thickwall tubular front bumper that he bent up with a Harbor Freight pipe bender -

I drove the buggy & can attest to the fact that it was quick and had a seamless power delivery once he got all the bugs worked out... and bottom of radiator was above the lower beam tube.

That's not a bad job and he probably has a nicely functioning heater for the winter, but he still cut away the lower skirt of the hood and the front of the body under the hood. Also painting a radiator black doesn't make it invisible. I think it would be a shame to start cutting up such a nice old Manx survivor, but its his car.

As soon as any paint is applied to the body it going to stop being original.
Do what you want with it. It is yours.
It looks like it does need a little body work and holes to be filled,
Any pieces cut off can be reglassed back in place if need be.

Or something else, let someone find you that wants to give you a large sum of money for the way it is.
Like I said it is yours to do what you want to.

I was talking with somebody yesterday that has used a 96 pass oil cooler as a radiator. He builds a skid plate on the front, with a few formed holes which allow air to pass. The cooler (radiator) is just behind the skid plate, so it is hardly noticeable behind it. Appearantly, works just fine.

i would love to see more pictures of the buggy with the zetec in it how the engine looks and the radiator is tucked in there

thanks for all the info im sure it waill all help with the direction i go

was goofing off and mounted up my tires on my wheels even tho they arent done and propped up the boddy to see what the look like

and one of my good friend found this for me

What kinda size wheels and tyres you going to be running there mate ?

front 15x7 wheels and 205-60/15 tires and rear 15x10 and 275-60/15
im having centers cut out for the wheels to resemble the old pacer wheels but have the center cut out and use the crome center cap and powder coat the wheels
