View original topic: Mud Flaps -- Where do they go?

Just bought some mud flaps at OCTO last week and forgot to look at someone else's bus to see how to attach the brackets. I've got a '62 deluxe. Can this be explained in words?

Thanks,

Max

The ones I had a few years ago bolted onto one of the 17 mm bumper bolt bolts and then the outboard end had an overlapping piece that simply clamped onto the sheet metal lip at the bottom corner.

Speirsn,

Did the bracket go between the frame and the bumper bracket? I don't think there is a cutout on the bracket. This would move the bumper up or down a little, wouldn't it?

Thanks

Max

Max,

Yes, the bracket had a "dog leg" in it, so as I recall, I simply removed a 17 mm bumper bracket bolt, slid the bent portion of the bracket up against the bolt hole and then replaced the bolt (this would in effect move the bumper bracket down toward the ground by a few millimeters.

I bought these brackets and mud flaps at a swap meet in Seattle, so I'm not sure whether they were a typical set similar to yours. I've since sold the bus, so I can't double check this info. Maybe try type2.com library or archives sections for further details.

Good luck! Neil.
