My choice would be the clean look of A 15 window. Panels are nice if your A fish on the way to the market. Dont get me wrong :)

not nearly enough people are looking towards bay window buses for this kind of treatment. they definitely lend themselves to that and look damn good when its done. I would recomend a 72 microbus.

Just like Lind said... Bay Windows are Very nice.Drive A Spit and then A Bay. Just goes to show that VW did move forward. And for the record,I love panels. Just not on the top of my list. When I'm driving I need to see around me,but thats my problem.

Lind and stillworks, do you really like baywindows or do you just not want to see another poor split get slammed on the ground?

To tell you the truth Yes. If you find one in nice shape. I would not spend much time or money on one at this time. They do drive nice, but not as nice as A Vanagon. Speaking of I'v seen some real nice ones also.I'm A Truck man Split ONLY :) and I have two.

baywindows are great. no more splitties need to go under the knife. if someone can't figure out for themselves what they like, let me recomend a honda. did I just say that or did I only think it?

Splits drive OK but Bays are nicer driver but vanagons are even better than Bays but Eurovans drive even nicer than the Vanagons.....what is the point here? If we just wanted something that drives nice you could always try putting a Barndoor body on a Grand Caravan chasis.

I think I'd go for the one that would be easier to do. It'd be more likely to get done in a reasonable amount of time, so I could start having fun sooner ;) Jeremy

go with one that parts are easy to come by. im in the middle of a 64 13 window deluxe resto. the entire damn thing and its going fairly smooth. call me simple or cheap "i dont know " but i like the idea of restoing panels, some day i want to do a panel and have it look like an old delivery panel.with some old german logo/lettering on the side.

Chris,
Seriously,
I am deep deep into a complete resto on my 66 13 window deluxe. I am finding any parts older than mine can go way up. If I am looking at brake masters or wheel cyl. for instance mine might be 24 bucks where the one for a 64 might be 125 bucks. I seem to see this for many parts. Not too mention donor parts as well as original, nos and repro for older models are almost non-existant and very spendy. Nothing like seeing someone offering up an nos long panel for a early panel for 2500 bucks or some crazy thing. It's expensive enough to get buses back to original and on the road in a timely fashion without creating part nightmares. Just my 2 cents. I spent 3200 bucks for a pretty darn straight 66 13 window with all three original seats, uncut dash, 1641 engine that got it all the way home across mt. pass and 0 mile f.f. tranny, all jail bars, deluxe trim, clock, fuel and speedo all great condition. If I wanted something 10 years earlier I would have spent twice that for stripped out hulk. |

If you want a slammed split you better have the number of a good chiropractor. I know of a few that have had to visit their local bone adjuster thanks to a lowered split. If you want to slam a van then use a bay. Your back will thank you for it!
