Hey dude! Done the same thing to my '67 bus. Put type III trans with long axles and cut my spring plates. My spring plates didn't pull in toward trans but the tires were 1/8 " from the spring plates. Too close! Don't know why your plates are pulling in unless your axles are too short. Mine was from a '64 notch with the long axles. Maybe try to locate long axles. Be sure to check tire clearance to outer spring plate. Hope this helps but if not maybe knowing others that have tried this conversion through trial and error have maybe perfected it. OH! and by the way, I didn't like the rear of my bus dragging the ground so I put the boxes back on and put a 3:88 ring and pinion and an .077 4th gear in the trans and now it runs 75 mph @ 3700 rpms. Better way to go unless you want your bus slammed! Good luck! If you need info on trans upgrade to a flyer just e-mail me back! Semoer Fi!

hey
you have to have long axles w/custom axle tubes using short end castings on them and the overall length of the tube has to be the same as the long axle tube, thats why your plates are going in
