View original topic: What kind of jack do I need?

I have a '63 deluxe and no jack. Is there a correct style jack for this year or one that works better than the other? There are a few for sale here on The Samba... I have a jack from my '78 bay. I've been told that the bay jack can trash the jackport.

Thanks,

Scott

Also, all the jacks I see for sale don't have a handle. Is this a hard to find item or can you use a socket wrench to crank it?

Thanks,

Scott

Actually, one of those lugbolt thingies shaped like a '+' work pretty well.

Static,

There I go overthinking something so practical like a 'tire iron'. Thanks for making me think.

You just need the Bilstein type of jack where you crank in a circle as opposed to the ones that you move the handle up and down. I believe the bay busses jack has an upside down 'U' shaped piece that you insert into the jackport and the two bottom edges of this piece will tear holes in the lower portion of the jackport.

Scored a correct jack at Karl's for $2.50...keep your eyes open at the swap meets.
