If anyone is interested I have been trying to figure out how to run a 6 volt clock in a 12 volt type 2, I did the math and a 2 watt 12 ohm resistor seems to do the trick, the clock has been running for a while and keeps perfect time, I dont know if all the type 2 colcks work the same but mine is the electro magnet style that winds itself every 30 seconds, if your not sure if yours is the same what it does is every 30 seconds you will hear it click than it will tick for 30 seconds than repeat the cycle, the click is the spring loaded hammer making contact which completes the magnetic cercut the polarities are reverse so this throws the spring loaded hammer and that is like winding the clock. I had a clock this style in my 1968 Porsche 912 a it worked the same way. I hope this helps if anyone was wondering how to do it.

How do you get the back off the clock. Took off the two little nuts but the white plastic cover barely moves...

there should be a little blue cylinder shaped block in addition to the two small nuts. that one twists off as well. other than that, it may just take a little pressure. jake.

How do you go about putting this resistor in the clock? Does it go between the + post on the clock back and the hot wire?

Just unplug the power leed and put one end of the resistor on the clock and the other on the wire, you can use crimp on connectors on the resistor so it will plug in easier. than tape it up with electrical tape so it doesn't ground out on the dash.

WARNING,,, I recently gave info about a resister to use on a 6 volt clock to make it work in a 12 bus. This morning the resister I was using had a melt down, this did not cause any damage to the Bus or the clock just a bad smell and a burnt resister, however it could have shorted to ground, If you are using one of these unplug it, in the mean time I will be doing some more testing to come up with a better fix and I will let you know what I find.

Problem solved, had a bad ground, clock was trying to run a ground path through the light and that was too much for it, I added a seperate ground and it works great.

Keeping it simple....you can buy a voltage drop device for using 6 volt items in your 12 volt car (like clocks, radios, wiper motors, etc, etc). Wolfsburg west and California imports both stock them for around $13.00-15.00.

that works to, but a 2 watt 12 ohm resistor only costs $1.50 and installs in about 2 minutes if all you need to adapt is a clock, also found out that a 12 volt power supply from a 1970 Karmann Ghia clock will replace the 6 volt one in a bus clock.

1970 only?
