View original topic: Fresh Air Vent Seals
Scott's '63 23 Thu Dec 05, 2002 10:10 am

I'm changing my seals in the overhead fresh air vent today. Never opened it up but am tired of black chuncks flying through the vents and now the air is cold on my bald head (I know, get a hat). Is there a trick to doing this and is there a stock adhesive seal (hardware store) that will work or should I order it from WW?

Thanks,

Scott

Found out today that the seal that goes on the two air directional flaps hasn't been reproduced (email from WW). Has anyone manufactured one? There's nothing left of mine to see what they looked like...

The one seal is rivited on, just use pop rivets... the one in the front could be just pushed in... if you need adhesive... silicone would be fine...

I will check with WW again. They gave me this link:

Scott,
We only have one seal available, the others have yet to be reproduced. Here is a link:

Did you remove the flaps by unscrewing the two screws on the outside of the vent and if so, how did you get to the top screw without damaging the headliner?

Thanks,

Scott

The above link is for the seal in the front of the vent and yes it will open or close the vent, stopping the cold air from coming in -- got that. I am now looking for the seals that attach to the two arms that control the direction of the air. Also am looking for someone who has taken those arms off to replace that seal or replaced it with something that works...

I am almost certain that west coast metric also makes a complete set of seals to rebuild the overhead vent box.

Took the whole thing apart today and figured it out. It's quite a simple contraption. Seals are replaced -- made them out of a vent wing, glass to frame seal. I had one laying around and Ron at WW said that is the seal they sell for the flaps.

Thanks for all your help,

Scott

The material for the directional flaps is the same material that they sell for the vent wing glass to frame seals.
I walked into WW and the guy at the counter set me up.
I used weatherstrip adhesive I bought at FLAPS to attach them.

if your buss dosnt have good paint or you dont care duct tape over the vents (i know okie but it works) or you could use painters maskint tape its the blue on dosnt ruin paint . other wise look at seals from around the bus to see if you can make one

Greg,

I had one of the vent wing seals in my garage and cut it to fit both flaps. Used industrial contact cement to adher. Works great...
