The engine noise from my '66 bus is so loud driving down the freeway that I can't hear my wife talking to me. What are some ways to soundproof it?

actually i think the best way to sound-proof is invest in a panel- no back seats, and a cab divider- that is where my wife and kids go, also make sure the cargo doors aren't latched properly- SHARP left turns will cure the problem

Does that really work? I just bought a panel. Bonus.

This is the ticket.Closed cell neoprene acoustic floor coushion. It's an upgrade for a laminate floor instlation 3/16th.thick,comes in a roll 5ft. wide 50ft.long (125sq.ft.)Before I put my interior in I tore out all the tarfelt and installed this everywhere I could reach, doors. roof, in front of the kickpanels, walls, floors. In the cargo area I put this between the ribs then put a full piece over that and droped it over the front of the gastank panel then covered the wheelwells. I'm running a single quiet pack and had to install a tach to know where to shift! You may be able to get this at HomeDepot, but a flooring store will have it.Around $50.oo DavidK 71Deluxe S/Cab69

dkauf how long did it take you to cover the hole bus? I just picked up a 60 11 window that needs a total int restore. Sound is an issue cause i like my tunes.

Look at www.b-quiet.com
I used the Brown Bread product and double layered my Kombi with two rolls (140 sq. ft.). Easy to order online.

I used aircraft sound-proofing picked up from an aircraft surplus parts yard. works fine.

You can have Rhino-Liner sprayed into the cargo area of your Bus. This will drastically cut down engine noise, road noise etc...And cost is approx $250-$300 here in California. If you want to spray it in yourself, HERCU-LINER is available at most K-Mart stores and costs $60/can. About 3-4 cans should do the entire cargo area.
For the uninitiated, both these products were designed as a durable truck bed liner, but it's very thick and can dbl as a sound deadener
