| I think jodz59VW was probably replying to a post by me from a month or so back. I asked about M-code 342, but got no replies and have since decided it should be M-code B42 (SO42 Westfalia) which would correspond to my bus. However, the plate still looks like 342 rather than B42 even though I know is should be B42. The bus is a 66 Westfalia that was imported to the country of Panama (Code PA) and has since ended up in my possesion here in the midwest. It is an absolutely perfect walk through pop-top with factory Westfalia rack, locking ignition, and factory front safaris. The locking ignition shows up on the M-code plate, but the front Safaris do not. My bus also has M-code 370 and I have found very little information about it. A couple of resources list M-code 370 as "US Export Equipment" but I have found 5 other busses with 370 and only one of them was imported to the US. At least 4 out of 5 are Westfalias and at least 2 out of the 5 have factory front safaris. If anybody has any more info on M-code 370 then please let me know. I got most of my information so far from the vintagebus.com bus registry. Thanks. |

Is there any way of getting the M-codes aside from the plate on the divider wall?
My bus was 'modified' by previous owner by cutting the divider wall out (which I have since replaced with a donor). Anyway, I don't have the original plate...all I know is that it's a '67 21-Window, built in November '66. I am guessing it was sold new in Minnesota. Thanks. |

Go to dropgates.com, get the address, and send them a letter with a money order or some cash. It has been working for me.

the M-codes in the 300s are for a package of options (each of which has their own M-number). these things include what type of glass is in the windows, what type of lights, speedometer, bumpers etc. I have deduced the package for some of the numbers 360, 372, 374, 376, 378, & 388. I have not seen the 370 or 342 numbers. I have only seen one place that mentions anything about those numbers in period literature, and I have looked at a lot of period litesature trying to find this information.

kind of a juicy list of options to be ordering. |

| Lind, thanks for the info. Nine out of 10 people would think my M-plate says 342, but it probably should be B42 since my camper appears to be correct for the B42 code. The 370 is probably going to be more elusive since I'm pretty certain it is going to be found on busses that were imported to places outside the US. Mine was imported to Panama and the only other owner I have actually spoken to has a Westfalia from Switzerland. His bus has M-code 370 and factory front safari windshields that do not show up on his other codes either. If you run accross more info on 370 then please let me know. Thanks and take care. |
