OK..need some answers from whoever has done this kit..plz
1. do i need to take my current bus tranny and redux boxes apart if I am installing a bug tranny? the directions arent clear to me on this. I do know I need to take the nosecone and hockey puck off.

2. Will the new spring plate go in at the same angle as the old one or since they ride at different heights is this not the case?

3. I figured that all i had to do was to replace the axle tubes / spring plates and swap trannies but it is sounding more like ALOT of work.

4. What should it cost me in hours if I take it to a shop? 4 hours?

thanks for ANY info or tips!

66- search under lowering- that may answer your ?'s- if not contact Jeff (rizzag11), he has answered a ton of my questions.

good luck

hey rick,
you dont have to do anything to you redux tranny except take off the nose cone and hocky stick, and tranny mounts then stick it aside incase you ever want to go stock or sell the bus.
the spring plates are going to be hit or miss, you will just have to try them at slightly different angles to get your desired ride height, try starting with them about a half inch off the lower ledge.
what kind of bug tranny do you have? if you have a 68 bug tranny all you will need to do is swap the axle tubes, otherwise you will have to swap in some long axles too(they come from 68 only bugs and 66 to 68 type 3). they can be found on swing axles with 4lug brakes.
if you feel uneasy about doing this swap at all i recomend you atleast take all your parts to cameron or someone near you to do that stuff then you can install the complete unit yourself.
when you are swaping axles you need to be very carefull to keep the axles on the sides they came off or they are more likely to break.
rear brakes is another story. email me if you need some more help.

thanks Paul and thanks Jeff. Knew I could count on ya! Thats what I thought. Yeah got the 68 beetle tranny and assembly, so it will be an easy swap for the most part. Are you kidding? Cameron will be getting enough of my cash soon enough...Hahaha.

Spring plates sound like a pain in the butt tho'!!!! Jeff you need to move North!! lol
thanks again!rick

I will be doing this to my bus very soon. I don't have the space to work on it. Does anyone know of a good place to take it in to do this in socal? OC more specifically.

thanks stillworks...wish you were in bellingham. haha To me it looks like any shop should be able to do it. Its just an engine drop, tranny swap, brake install job. The hard part right now looks to me like getting the spring plates aligned!!

66 SPLIT, JUST LEVEL THE BUS AND DO ONE SIDE. THEN TAKE A MEASURMENT FROM THE FLOOR TO THE SPRING PLATE AND IT SHOULD GET YOU CLOSE ENOUGH NOT TO BE ABLE TO SCREW UP. DONT FEEL OVERWHELMED, IT IS AN EASY SWAP AND IM SURE YOULL BE FINE.
LATER, ODIN
