After parking my bus last night for a few hours outside, I drove it home and noticed that the fuel gauge fogged up on the inside of the glass. The outside windows were fogging up also from the cold (yes, it sorta gets cold in southern California). My speedo and clock were fine. Any ideas?

| Just like a cheap watch, if the gauge got wet, some water will condense under the lense when the sun shines. Because the fuel gauge is on the left side of the dash and more suseptible to getting wet, that may be what happened. The guts of the gauge are brass, so a little moisture will not affect operation. But the needle and index plate are steel and will rust if "rained on" too many times. If you get continuos fogs inside the glass, you should dissassemble the gauge and let it air dry. There is a gasket installed, but it is more for dust control and an occassional water droplet, it can't keep out a big flood. |

Thanks Tom,
The gauge hasn't ever gotten wet. It just fogged up from the cold. I took the bus out of the garage at 7 pm so there wasn't any sun prior to that and it was fogged up at 9 pm just sitting in the cold. I've never taken the gauge apart. Maybe I'll do that for the heck of it and see if there is any moisture inside for some reason... |
