For those of you who didn't see this already, here was my original problem:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forums/splitbus/forum.php?screen=msg&mid=5086

I finally got the Bus running after playing some more with timing, carburation and plug wires, and I took it for a test drive up the street.

It stalled and I pulled the coil wire off the distributor, and now I have no spark again! R.I.P Coil #2!

Though I am glad to know what my problem finally is (burning up coils), I don't have any idea how I would remedy this. Is my alternator dead? Headlight switch?

This sure is getting expensive!

Thanks.

DEREK, IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A SHORT IN THE IGNITION SWITCH POSSIBLY. BUT SOME WHERE YOU DEFINATELY HAVE A GROUNDED CIRCUIT. IF YOU KEEP BURNING UP COILS THEN YOU NEED TO INSTALL A RESISTOR IN THE HOT WIRE THAT GOES TO YOUR COIL. IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A COUPLE OF WIRING ISSUES THAT ARE PLAGUEING YOUR BELOVED TYPE 2. AS FAR AS THE FUSE COLORS I KNOW THAT THE MAIN POWER WIRES THAT RUN INTO THE FUSE BLOCK REQUIRE A RED 16 AMP FUSE. THE WHITE ONES SHOULD BE FINE FOR THE TURNSIGNAL CIRCUIT BUT THE HEADLIGHT CIRCUIT DRAWS ALOT MORE AMPERAGE, SO IT TOO NEEDS A RED FUSE. GOOD LUCK AND LET ME KNOW WHAT THE FINAL VERDICT WAS.
