I have a 59 panel and it has a 1600 dp in it, I have just replaced the clutch, clutch cable, and trans boots. I was driving home and I lost a massive amount of power do to a reason unknown. I looked back in the engine and my cam pulley has play in it from front to back and not up and down, it hadn't before. I was wondering do I have to crack the case to replace the cam shaft and pulley? Also it use to move quite well with the reduction boxes. I was cruisen at 60mph now it seems to not want to go over 50mph. Is it time to go to a trans with no reduction box? What do you guys recommended in the trnas department for highway cruisin'????
Thanks
B

i would say your engine is on its way out i think its heding on its way out the door i think it the main something a gear or some thing is when there is play . try spinning the wheels in the air nuteral to see if its easy or hard but i think you just need a new crank but who knows what else

Do you mean crankshaft pully?
If so the movement from front to back is called end-play.
Did you happen to remove the flywheel when you changed the clutch?
Maybe you forgot to put in a few washers...
In any event, I wouldn't think this would cause massive power loss (Unless the clutch was slipping).

Mine has 1600 sp (soon to be 1914 w/dual carbs) stock set up with no reduction boxes at the wheels, straight axle kit and freeway flyer trans. I brought it back across the cascade mountains after purchasing and it ran 50-60 up the passes and seemed to go as fast as I wanted on the flats. I like the way it cruised.
