Did the money and the paperwork Friday and drove it home Saturday. Saw it in the classifieds here. I'll have to verify, but it appears all the numbers match.

My ferry run was about 350 miles. The PO's husband was a machinst and had done quite a bit work to it himself. The car was supremely reliable and ran like a sewing machine. No problems getting well above 70. Speedomiter readings were about dead nuts with my GPS. The brakes were excellent as well. The car had a file of bills to go with it, verifying the work. Got better than 28 MPG on the way back doing 65-70 MPH.

But there's always something. I got a vibrating steering wheel and a hard seeming ride above 40 MPH. So in the next day or two, I'll add a bit of air to the tires and looks for surface irregulaities to see if I have a damaged belt. I planned on a trip to the alignment shop to check that, and get the rear torsion bars adjusted.

Bodywise the car is solid wth some patches decently done. I suspect it had a red respray over Manila Yellow, though. Interior needs some work.

What made my day Saturday was when a guy in a late model Porsche gave me a big thumbs up on I-75!

Congrats! Post up pictures when you can

Congratulations on your '64...however you can't get away with that amount of teasing without posting pictures.

The problem with steering vibration was addressed in this recent topic: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=487244

Suggestions like, alignment, wheel balance and worn steering damper are just a few things to check for. Read the topic, it covered most of the likely culprits.

Yeah, I've been out there with it today, finally get to fiddle a bit with it since it's my weekend.

The car is a true survivor, over 209k on the odo. Should I have a grill badge for each side? :D Lots of good work done, but didn't get to the steering. I think I'll start with the dampener and coupler, then on to the tires- do the cheapest first...

I think I see Manila Yellow under that red in places, though...

I'm tickled with it

So, pics:

Looks a good solid driver...enjoy it. :)

Only one fender badge...in the recess on the passenger side.

Looks nice! Any plans for it?

Thanks!

I'll do it box stock.... I've a BA in History. Listen to my psychedelica in it. :D Probably will get one of those new rechargeable speaker units for bluetooth audio. Cordless, no cutting, blankplate.

I can't tell for certain from the pics, but it does look like the bumper corner blades indeed fall "short" of the wheel opening (wheel arch got bigger in '67
necessitating shorter blades). No big deal-----few know the difference anyway.
Oh--I just looked at the pics of your parts car. That bumper looks correct.

As a fellow '64 Coupe owner, I wish you lots of enjoyment with your restoration/revival. Looking forward to updates.

Mine's an "early" '64 with the older style front blinker. Its clear lens is held on to the housing by a chrome ring. Later ones have an amber blinker lens screwed directly onto the housing.

Older shot from mid 2000's:

It was painted this garish orange when I bought it in ~'93 with an aftermarket all-black interior. Original color is polar blue.
