I just received a whole package of papers from the original owner's son on my 67 camper. It appears the air conditioner was installed at the dealer when bought new. I don't think it has the compressor and I was going to take it out until I realized it came from the dealer new. Does anyone have experience with these, is it worth the trouble to keep? I'm still trying to get to run so I haven't worried much until now. Thanks for any help

Don't yank it out yet!
There are plenty of aftermarket AC units out there. The hard part in putting them in a split bus is the customized heat exchanger and air ducts in the bus cabin. If you have that, it should be possible to retrofit the compressor/condenser from a new unit into the distribution ducts which you have in place.
Would look "stock" but would have the advantage of newer compressor technology. The newer scroll compressors are 2-3 times more efficient than the old dealer installed units, so they don't bog down the engine as much. Good luck, and if you decide to pull the guts out, email me, I would really like those parts! |

Yo J or anyone out there....
Unlike almostreal, my 66 bus has no AC and never did. West Coast Restoration turned me on to ICE in San Diego but they say they have lost track of the supplier of the kits and don't do busses anymore. :(
I guess there are always the issues of drilling holes, trying to make
something look original, not ruining the bus etc, but I'm in Dallas and
without A/C, well let's just say I'll finally achieve that weight loss
my wife has been griping out!
Any ideas or resources you may be able to share? Any help would be
appreciated. |
