| Any good quality epoxy putty can be used to repair the cracks and voids. POR-15 and several other companies sell a complete steering wheel repair kit, but the main component (the putty) can be bought in bulk form as "Milliput" etc. |

The problem is,
when the steering wheels gets in the sun it gets hot,and the material begins to work,i want to make sure that i use the right type of filler that works the same way as the material from the wheel.
so when i know what material it is i can look for a good product and make some samples that i can try in the spray booth on high temp .
I have seen loads of restored steering wheels ,and they all crack after some years. |

whels will always crack ......original wheels have to be restored because they crack .....and they are supposed to be made of the same material so if you use epoxi putty and it cracks again ....it should be normal ....
a tip : open the cracks with a xacto knife and degrease , so putty can get deep enough into the crack ...don`t be afraid to open a gap too wide or too deep ....putty will fill her up ...
the best putty is the one that dries in 24 /30 hours , it has no solvents and no contractions .....
i do use steelcote putty , it has the same hardness as the original material , i don`t know if it is available there . |

I did an article on steering wheel resto now 9 years ago. It is at thebugshop(.org) in the tech help section. I used POR putty I believe. The tip about drilling voids at the ends of the cracks is a good one.
And it has been 9 years since I did my last steering wheel resto. What a PIA that is.... |
