I stopped by the local Porsche shop yesterday to check on the progress of a friends 356. The owner, a cool cat by the name of Jack, gave us the nickle tour of his shop. Jacks been into Busses and Porsches since the old days in Cal. Aside from the obvious Porsches, Jack has a 911 powered Westy and a 912 industrial motored 56 Panel with factory safaris and old school logos for his cal shop. The industrial motor has a hand-crank that is about twice the size of any I have seen and looked almost home-made till I checked it out and found a big Hazet stamp on it! Anyhow, we were talking motors and oil coolers. I guess back in the days when he didn't have a lot of bread, instead of spending cash on an oil cooler, he used to get a roll of copper tubing and route it back and forth under his bus. Then he would hook it up full flow style to the block...instant cooler! Good idea if you get the tube high enough, you loose no clearance. Gotta love those cheap fixes!

A cheaper trick yet is to use a belt one size too small and install extra shims in the gen/alt pulley and the fan will turn alittle faster keeping everything alittle cooler.
