What is the weight (lbs) of a Split Window Body (minus pan), fenders, hood & deck lid attached? I need to calculate for restoration rotisserie build (heater channel repair). Splits had thicker body sheet steel than later cars, agreed?
Thanks in advance for your assistance ! |

| me and one person carried my oval body out of a junk yard, about 1/8th of a mile! no glass, fenders, hood, interior, pan or fuel tank. i would say less than 400 lbs! |

| I weighed my bare oval body many years ago, at 240lbs. I guess a split body to be very close to that. |

So do you and the Zwitter have a few other things in common? Perhaps a few body parts that just don't belong? :)
(sorry I couldn't help myself  ) |

According to the 1952 workshop manual, it states that a Split Bug Sedan weighs 710kgs dry (730kgs ready for use), it goes on to state the total weight of the chassis is 435kgs. Therefore, the body complete with all glass, trim, (not seats etc) wiring, or in fact anything above the floorpan bolt line come to the grand total of 275kgs.
Hope that helps?

Aha, that's the ticket...thanks...so for blokes like me, (and perhaps the OP) [Brian] that translates to the equivalent of 606 lbs.
Does that help calcs. for your rotisserie? :?: Good luck with it!
Happy VWing :) |
