The bug finally arrived today. Took a while to get from California to South Florida, 24 days to be exact, 'cause of the holidays I guess. Anyways... I'm extremely excited now that it's finally here! I drove it about 30 miles today, some of it on the highway, it runs very good. It's in really good condition but it does need some work done.
Here's a pic of the bug after I washed it. It was covered in dust after the long trip.
I wrote more about today and posted more pics and a video on my blog, check it out at http://63ragtop.com |

I've disassembled the used 1600cc engine I got for my '63 bug.
Found that the crankshaft was broken in three pieces!
Hopefully the case is in good condition.
I'll take it to my local VW shop this weekend to get it inspected.
Here are some pictures of the engine...

I would like to get your suggestions about whether to add all the chrome trim to my '63 ragtop beetle or remove it completely. I've made a photoshop composite that shows the bug with the trim and with out. I'd appreciate your comments. Thanks!

If you're going to keep it flat black and you want the trim (I think you should keep it) you might want to have the trim done in black chrome like this rim:

Sup people!
Since my last post here I've done some work on my '63ragtop bug. I replaced the window/door rubber on both sides.
It was realt tuff getting that vent window rubber in and to align properly with the vent post.
It was a success though. I wrote a blog post about it and included some pictures. Check 'em out!

I just did the very same thing on both doors last night. My fingers hurt too!
The hardest part for me was getting the inner scraper to click in position, so I changed up the order on my second door and I found it was easier to do the inner scraper first, then the outer scraper. Either way looks great! |

A few weeks ago I restored the headlight assemblies of my '63 ragtop bug. It was really easy to disassemble and put them back together. I do recommend to take do one at a time and use the assembled one as a guide to put the disassembled one back together. Here are some pics. See more in my blog http://63ragtop.com
I will get replacement chrome rings later, but they look much better than before.
