Just picked up this '68 Baja today for $150. Its been sitting since '07. Needs an engine..but the bug is mainly all there. Has extra double tube bumpers front and rear, popouts and new nose clip. The wheels actually cleaned up real nice when I got it home..but they probably won't be staying. Someone kind of hacked up the dash speaker area and stereo area as well. I will be welding some new sections in there once I find some. The headliner is like perfect. It will eventually need heater channels too, but I figured for the price I couldn't go wrong.

The price was right! Have fun and make it your own.

I paid $800 for mine. got $4800 into it now. doesn't look one bit different, except it runs now. just send a fourth of every paycheck to Mooreparts.

Thanks guy's, I'll keep you posted. I want to make it look like it was built in the 70s. I have some 15x8.5" old school slot wheels for the rear and matching 15x7s for the front. And I want to change the taillights out for some 62-67 ones. It won't get any stripes or graphics though.

Old school retro, old is new again. 8)

What do you guys think would look better? 15x7" and 8.5" alum slot wheels or 15x7"and 10" Cragar SS wheels? Just thinking ahead for when the time comes

bajamike560 Tue Dec 27, 2011 9:32 pm

For period correct, what ever you can get in good shape for cheap and go with it. You are the one that drives it. (unless you allow others to drive for a small fee to help off set the cost of the build)

I think whats on there is fine if it works. im not picky when it come to Bajas. But, if you must upgrade, my vote is for slot mags.

EMPIImp69 Wed Dec 28, 2011 6:28 am

Yea I already have the slots and Cragars, so we'll see. I think Bajas look much better with wider rims in the rear. The ones on there now are all the same same width.

Pulled the front wheels and discovered some Chevy drilled drums so hit them with some paint and I tried the slot wheels on. Need some bigger meats. I went thru the brakes and they are pretty good, so I adjusted all 4. Had to pull a drum in the rear to free the stars. Im going to need to change the long brakeline going from front to rear next.

Very nice for the price! It looks like they had one of those gauge panel sets in the dash.... If the wiring is still all there, you could simply track down another set, like these:

Thanks Bossride, I may do something like that, but the guage wiring was poorly done so I disconnected it and will start fresh. Pulled the crappy front bumper off. Changed the long brake line, bled the brakes. Pedal is hard as a rock now. Took out the gas tank too. Im going to clean it up, paint it put it back in. Took some updated pics.

I'll be selling these Chevy 5 on 4-3/4 Chevy pattern 15x7 ARE wheels if anyone is interested.

Picked up an extra baja kit for cheap, and got this exhaust for $20.

Painted it up with some heat paint.

Hit the bumper with some hammered silver

Like the light colors, most of us paint parts black or another dark color.
Keep up the great work.

Thanks Mike, yea I usually go with lighter colors like silver for the bumpers or chrome if I can.

Today I pulled the nose piece off and primed up the metal behind it.

Fitted up the new piece

Picked up an extra Baja kit the other day for $75

Put the new hood on which is good quality & reinforced with metal at the hinge areas and no cracks.

Cleaned & painted up the tank too.

out west those aluminum rims will fracture on the ribbons of rocks we call roads ( fire roads and irrigation ditch roads ). you can beat steel back into shape; you just mke more fractures when you beat aluminum.

Indeed mal, indeed. I have steelies on my ride. Alumi wheels will just get bent to hell and back on our off road stuff. alumi wheels are great for street cars, not offroad.

Im not worried about it, alum. wheels usually look better and are way lighter than steel ones..I don't usually beat the shit out of my cars that much anyway. Besides my rail is more set up for offroading.

I like the jeep topper storage, looks like caged animals wanting to get out and play.
