View original topic: welding on Christmas eve - new aluminum carb tops

I finished up welding my aluminum carb tops for my dual Weber 48IDFs. At a dry & dusty rally I'd have to swap out pre-filters at every service break. I'm ditching my UNI pre-filters and K&N filters for a canister inside the car. I tried TIG welding them but the cast tops kept fizzing whenever I'd get a good puddle going and the weld looked like crap. I just MIG welded them with my Hobart 140.

The inlets are 3" 6061-T6 tubing.

Today I welded some tabs to the tops and bases so they stay attached. The standard 10-24 threaded rod is gone and I'm using 1/4-20 with lock nuts. There is 3" steel exhaust tubing through the firewall which then goes to the filter inside. 3" aircraft flex tubing will go from the carb top to the steel tube and then inside from the steel tube to the filter.

Note the nut plates for my removable rear plexiglass window.

Are the links to the pictures in this thread bad, or is it just me who can't see them?
