Anybody see the new Pawn Stars? Rick buys a maroon and black '68 vert. The block was cracked, but they bought it regardless. When they got it back from the mechanic, he had but in another motor in, 1600 I assume. Chrome tins, 009, and a 34 pict 3. Oh and a missing breast plate, and than he says he was gonna ask $10k.

I love how his son grinds the tranny leaving the parking lot!

Glenn Tue Dec 27, 2011 5:01 am

$7300... good luck getting $5000 for it.

Didn't get to watch it. My daughter thought it would be a good idea to delete that event on the DVR.

Rick said on the show he had pulled hundreds of VW engines, but he and his son couldn't get that engine out, because he had the wrong kinda jack...WTF? I've yanked them with no jack whatsoever...
I also liked the thing where they asked "What Movie helped put Walt Disney Studios on the Map?" or something like that, and their answer was "Herbie"...Funny, I always thought that the name of the actual movie
(and I was at the San Diego County Premeire, as our neighbor owned a VW Dealership, and invited me to go along) was "The Love Bug"...
Rick also looks at the floor pans, but says nothing about the support rails...

Dave,

I just loved the red painted 009. Now that's trick.

I am going to be in Vegas in Jan. And thought about checking out there shop.

Has anyone ever been in the Pawn Shop?

MB56VW Tue Dec 27, 2011 7:33 am

I know of some people that went there. None of the guys that are on the show were working. They said it was also packed and a line outside.

anthracitedub Tue Dec 27, 2011 7:47 am

Yeah, I liked how the count swapped that MSD for the 009, and applied everyone's favorite mod, the ole' plastic filter in the engine bay... Hopefully Rick didn't pay for the engine swap

orangebug60guy Tue Dec 27, 2011 8:43 am

it was missing some engine tin as well...gtfo

I was there in July and like the other poster said the line was around the block. Plus being over 100 outside swayed my decision to stay inside and drink. That's why its always the same camera angle in outside shots so you don't see all the people.

I told by a friend you can only get in there shop on certain days.

yauchzee Tue Dec 27, 2011 10:48 am

Not only was the filter in the engine bay, but they did not have ANY clamps on the fuel lines that I saw!

VOLKSWAGNUT Tue Dec 27, 2011 11:18 am

They paid too, much for the car, too much for the repairs, and will ask too much for the car.

Someone may get a good deal someday when they realize all the above.

Good thing it wasnt a 67 or prior, or when it IS time to sell, it would be picked to death for incorrect issues.

sub-hatchtim Tue Dec 27, 2011 12:00 pm

wow tuns of wrong with that car

what a shady mechanic friend, he paid him to take the msd ign

I got 10 that says the engine they put in that car is a gex or bap special

skabonner Tue Dec 27, 2011 12:07 pm

I just don't see $2300 worth of repair. It probably wasn't a fresh rebuilt motor, and the only missing part I saw was the bumpers. Couldn't he take off some money for the msd ignition he kept/sold. All this for a car that will probably overheat on the way home because its so hot out, and its missing engine tins?

Usually that guy looks like he does good work, but he really must know very little about VWs.

sub-hatchtim Tue Dec 27, 2011 12:20 pm

should have gone to the Wagen

drscope Tue Dec 27, 2011 12:21 pm

It's a TV show that is all scripted! The prices quoted are just for the cameras and probably have nothing to do with reality.

NOTAHONDA Tue Dec 27, 2011 1:13 pm

What a joke, dude threw on a red 009 and kept the MSD. I dug the fuel filter above the motor also.

I drive by the Pawn shop often just to see the lines of taxis and tourists for kicks. The line wraps around the building...

BTW the cast doesnt work there anymore unless they are filming a show and when they are filming the the shop is closed and parking lot is blocked.

Dave24 Tue Dec 27, 2011 1:28 pm

Anyone see the oldman buy the bus lp player?... WAY overpaid for that as well.
