To allow enough shock/suspension travel for a decent ride, how many inches of space do I need between the top of my tire and the wheel well. I have a lowered bus (dropped spindles/straight axle kit) with the stock 14" rims with 185/50/14 tires. There is about 5 inches of space there now. It would seem that I have plenty of room to go to higher aspect ratio. I would like to stick 195/65/14 to give me some meat around my rim (not diggin the 50's). How many inches (at rest) do you guys think I need there? Thanks in advance for your inputs.

| i have about an inch and a half clearance, i have kyb white shocks and 195-50-15 tire and i only rub on real decent bumps. i would think if you are worried about it then three inches should be plenty. |

Doug,
What brand of tires are you using? |

Haven't purchased tires yet. The ones on the bus now are 185/60/14 brand X (toyo or something). Is there a tire that has been found to perform on busses well?? I was thinking about some kind of touring radial with an aspect ratio of 65 to be ideal. Any comments helpful. Thanks for the input again.

Speaking of the suspension, what size of shocks are you running? I have a lowered bus with IRS and spindles (3.5 inches all around) and was curious as to the size of shocks that I need? It is time to replace them...
Thanks in advance,

Since I have no idea how old my shocks are and I am moving into final stages of body restoration it would be good time for new shocks. Don't know what size is in mine but would like to know what everybody has to say about shocks and ride quality. Looking for more on the soft side. Not going to be looking for speed cornering ability as much as overall comfort (family rig).
