View original topic: 67's been wrecked?

Hey there everyone, my first time posting on here.

I've had my 70 bug for a few years now and I just picked up a 67 split window from a fella in Ohio. I have some questions for all you bus experts out there. First off it looks like my bus has been wrecked, several things point to this, slightly crumpled arches, nose been replaced, bent dash, although it's all be repaired, to some extent, I was wondering if this will cause major problems, and how I can go about correcting them. I know it will never be a show bus, but its mine and that's all that matters.
Normal stuff like the corners and rockers needs replaced, but some of this stuff I am not quite sure of,

1. The top side of the eyebrow has a rust hole, and there is rust on the inside of the top, inside where the air vent is.

2. Nose replaced, looks solid, not to much bondo, but you can tell itÆs been cut off of another bus because of weld lines around the middle of the front window frames and like I said the arches are a little twisted and need to be replaced.

3. IÆm getting a bit of water in the tray under the dash, where is the most likely source for this?

4. Cab floor needÆs replaced; can you buy a whole new section? Or would it have to come in parts.

5. The very bottom of the cargo doors is rusted away, can you repair this or would I need to locate new doors?

IÆve got some pictures; I will post a link on here as soon as I get them off my digital camera.

#3 water usually comes in thru the safari windows (if you have them) or on the side windows from the passenger/driver sides. There is a pretty big gap between the windows on each door...(where the sliding windows are)....i learned the hard way when i washed it...oops.

No I don't have safaris, living in Ohio and knowing how they tend to leak, I want to just keep my standard windows. ItÆs pooling in the tray under the dash, and I can't figure out how it's getting down there... Maybe the water fairies? Mythical beings that deliver water to unprotected arias of the busÆs interior

Does your bus have a splash pan mounted below the front cab area? If this is missing, there is nothing keeping water out. Also, check the rubber seals around your turn signals, windshield wipers, and headlights. Water will leak in there onto your floor. Lastly, the wheel arches must be "hole free" and the door seals must be intact.

If all else fails, at least mop up the water and lift up any floor coverings after driving in the wet to let things dry out. Water won't do much damage if you don't let it sit on the metal.

If you're getting water in the package tray and there isn't an obvious hole, You might have swiss cheese in the bottom of the windshield area. The gutter has a "scupper" right over the windshield and if the seal is bad water can easily get between the rubber and body. The seals for the turn signals is another are to check as J.pickens noted.

Regarding the cargo doors, check www.metwiz.com They sell support pieces that weld up on the inside of the cargo doors for and if the outside is bad, you can weld up some new sheet metal when you have the interior strength. It worked for me and there's a pic of them on the website. They're around $25 each door.

Delete the word "for" on the second line...
