I'm trying to get the turn signals (and emergency flashers) working on my 67 deluxe. Several wires were detached from the turn signal and I've managed to track down where they should go and soldered them on. However, I still have nothing. I have juice to my relay and none coming out. However, is there anything else I can do to verify that the relay is bad before dropping that much cash on a new one (looks like Wolfsburg sells it for $70)? Also, what is up with the two different relays and how do they relate to each other? Do the signals and 4-ways operate off of separate relays or the same? Thanks, John

Have you checked a diagram? Vintagebus.com has them. Get on the list at type2.com. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks that hang out on there.

Yes, I've been using the color-coded diagram from vintagebus.com. I also found a helpful troubleshooting article at type2.com which should solve my problems now---just for anyone's information: http://www.type2.com/library/electris/vw-9prong.html. Thanks for the lead.

Just checked the above link and it doesn't work. However, if you go to www.type2.com and scroll down to library, the relevant file is under "Electrical - Secondary".

signals and hazars work off the same relay, if you have a second relay someone has spliced some new things in, unless the relay you speak of is actually the dimmer switch.
I have a cheater relay diagram to eliminate the 9-prong box, actually 2 different methods, one is about $3.50 (but you get no hazards lights) the other is about $20 but you get hazards. I'll try to dig them up If you want |

Yes, the second relay is the dimmer switch. I've done some testing and my problem lies in my turn signal switch. When I bought the bus the t/s switch had three wires unattached. Two had to do with the dimmer relay (brown), the other was blue and had to do with the signals. I obviously soldered it on wrong because when I bypass the relay to test the wiring my left front and right rear signal light go on together. The wiring diagrams just are not detailed enough to let me know exactly where to solder on the blue wire. Any help would be appreciated. Anyone have a pic of a '67 9-wire turn signal switch?
