Im replacing all my worn out gaskets and have found one that I cannot seem to find. The vent windows have a three sided gasket around it before it goes to the vent frame. Does anybody know what its called and where can I find some? I have a picture but need to find how to send it.
thanks steve

I don't believe there are oem units still available. What I have seen being sold by shops is a thin length of flat rubber not much diferent than a bicyle inner tube! I have used several of these successfully. They need to be trimmed with an exacto knife after the glass is installed.

Wolfsburg West carries the vent window glass to frame seal. It is the same piece of rubber that they sell that you use to replace the seal that glues to the deflector arms in the fresh air overhead unit. Click on this link to get to it at WW: http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=221845295A

It's very difficult to install on your own. VW had a special press they used to install these. You can have them done at BFY in Orange, CA for (I believe) $18 plus the cost of the seal.

Good Luck...

The bicycle tube looks like a good idea. Ive got alot of thick tubes around the house. Thanks for the help.

I was told you can press the glass into the frame using wooden furniture clamps. Haven't tried it yet.

Did my first one with a bike tube and it is pretty easy, but it is not as thick as the 'real seal' and the glass tries to creep out of the frame.

I would say that the thinner rubber is better than the thick crap they sell for fabricating your own. Mine wasn't WW, so maybe that was the problem, but I just about ruined the frame, the rubber was so thick. I ended up abrading it down to make it thinner, what a pain!
