I'm new to bus stuff so I thought I would ask you guys how much you think this stuff is worth. The rack is original and has the sticker on the back, and is in perfect shape other than some of the clamps are rusty. http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/67530.jpg
also I have an extra steering box, it looks very new, but has the markings from a junkyard (you know when they scribble on it with a paint pen)
I'll go take some more pics, I just don't wanna ask too much or too little. I would rather have the wood slat rack and some rims, than this rack and an extra box, I know some people really like that OG vw rack though. Thanks for any help, I'll post some pics in a few |

I guess the 'box isn't as nice as I thought, how do I check to see that it's good?

| Your rack is a later model one, typically from the 1970s. It is worth about $200-300 in my opinion. The steering box could be worth anywhere from $50-125, depending upon condition. You can turn the shaft and watch the pitman arm movement in relation to it. Lots of slop=bad. Tight and accurate, not sloppy=good. Also make sure that it turns cleanly without and binding or sticking. That can happen sometimes when people overtighten or incorrectly adjust them. The steering box is rebuildable and the $50 figure is about what a core is worth, roughly. |
