Ok, getting closer to getting underneath the bus. Will be doing beam work I am sure, total brakes, steering box, shocks, engine R/R, etc. What do you guys think to be the best book as an overall good reference and step by step manual? For late split (specifically 66)
quality over cost. I already have a couple books just a couple notches from completely worthless.

Thanks
Doug

The Bentley manual is hands down, the best.

The Bentley is far the best, a little pricy but worth it.

Any ideas as to a good place to buy that book? I know that books are one of those things that vary greatly on cost depending on the source.

You guys are the best.

Rocky Moutain Motorworks sells them for about $100.00 bucks, sometimes you can catch one on ebay but I don't know what kind of deal you will get because EBAY SUCKS

Try Stan Wolfarth. He works at Bentley Pub and visits this forum occasionally.

A number of retailers sell our manuals at sinificant discounts off our retail price. A few that come to mind for this title are:
http://www.type2parts.com/
http://www.busdepot.com/
and of course good old J.C. Whitney

We also get out to a number of shows and typically discount all our titles for the event. This year I'm planning to be at:
Phoenix Bug-O-Rama (April)
Carlisle, PA import show (May)
VW Classic/OCTO shows (June)
Litchfield, CT Bug Inn (June)
Waterfest, Englishtown, NJ (July)
