So I am thinking about building a new motor for my short body manx that i play with on the street but use to play/put in the desert. I have a case as well as a stock crank, rods, bored heads (for 94 pistons) and a lot of other parts. I also have an 82 stroker crank but I think it has to be welded due to a micro crack. My question, is a 1915 enough power for a little buggy? Should I save the 2276 for the long body car in the future?

A 1500 is "enough" power for a SWB buggy. A 1600 is even better, and the 1776 I am running with the stock carb is more than enough (lower R&P and fourth gear in trans). It pulls strong up to 4,000 RPM which is fine for me. A 1915 would push that buggy anywhere you want to go, especially if you set it up with dual carbs, a high energy ignition, and decent exhaust.

The answer depends on you. What do you want the buggy to do, out run most everything on the road, quick, fast, dependable, show with few miles per year?

A 1915 in a full body sedan is quick and fast and will get you in trouble if you are not a good driver. It is even quicker in a lighter buggy.

As a side note, I have a 2165, 2276 and a 1915. The 1915 will be going in my buggy and will be plenty for me.

i have a 1500cc in my manx clone. i havent driven it yet because its still being built. i chose the 1500cc cause i can build it up when (if) it gets tired or blows up. but for right now, i just think that if a 1200cc (what i used to have) can move around a german family of 4 just fine in a "heavy" beetle, then the 1500 will be great in a light buggy.

Go to a website called Wallace racing and play around with their performance calculators......even 100 hp in a 1300lb car can be pretty quick.....
