Anyone know anything about body numbers? Was there a method to their madness? I have a 1959 KG with a low body number, 75, and according to some simple research, it should be a lot higher. Makes me curious. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Karmann stamped the body number behind the spare tire location and on the lids and doors, to keep the parts fitted to the body with the body as it was under construction in Osnabrück. These numbers ascended up to 39600 on 29 August 1958, when Karmann decided to stop the practice of cumulative body numbering, and replace that system with a repeating system of one to three digits, as logically, there was never more than 200-300 Karmann-Ghias under construction at the factory at any one time.
