Those are the numbers of the empty trans case. What's inside, could be anything.
Read the number stamped into the case about 1" below where you found the part number.

Not sure what's inside, but a stock 66 trans came with the following gears: 3.80 first, 2.06 second, 1.32 third, .89 fourth, and 4.375 ring and pinion.

Got a chance of getting a AO code gearbox, it has a 4.125 final drive as opposed to AB 4.375 that is fitted. Does anyone have experience with this ratio? Cheers

IMO, 4.125 is the best all around ring and pinion ratio for off-the-line acceleration and highway cruising. (3.875 is better for highway cruising, but you lose some of the off-the-line gearing.) 4.125 R&P came stock on ghias from 1967-1970 model years. With stock height (25.4 inch tall, 165/80R15) tires, your engine rpm will be approximately 20 mph per 1,000 rpm, i.e., 3,000 rpm at 60 mph or 3,100 rpm at 100 kph (62 mph).

Ok, thanks for that, much appreciated. I forgot to mention i've rebuilt engine to 1641/twin webers.

When you look at the code, check it carefully. Most AO gearboxes are actually A0.
