I have a 912 oil filler on my Type 1 engine and recently discovered that the inside is rusty.
It's not rusting through, but there are little bits of rusting metal flaking off from the inside.
Obviously I don't want those bits of metal getting into my engine. I'm wondering if this is a common problem and if there is a good solution to the problem.
I was thinking of using a small wire brush to get inside it and scrape off all the loose pieces of metal. I'm wondering if there is anything I could coat the inside with to prevent it from continuing to rust.
I've used stuff to coat old gas tanks. I'm wondering if that same product would work for this oil filler.
Anyone have some ideas? Thanks.

I must be the only person this has ever happened to.
I guess I will search for some small wire brushes and see if I can make any improvement that way. |

I'm wondering if anyone has used fuel tank liner inside the breather.
I had my gas tank cleaned and lined 20 years ago and is still looks like new inside. |
